Sheila Harvey took on the Rose when it was in a dilapidated state, with her vision of a total building restoration opening the way for a quality food and beverage enterprise.

From the start, the project was a labour of love – especially as Sheila kept up another ‘day job’ until the middle of 2019. Now, seven years on, the 1848 building is transformed into a bright clean and inviting bar, and is once more a landmark in the town - with its distinctive traditional bright red roof and modern bi-fold glass doors showing the neat interior.

FIDC is hugely impressed by Sheila’s commitment to this mostly self-funded business project, with only the latter stages of the rebuild needing assistance; this is regularly complimented within the Corporation as an exemplar of the self-motivated entrepreneur wisely applying their own resources and equity together with additional capital.

The Rose has become a destination of choice for residents and visitors alike, looking for the authentic touch of Falkland’s hospitality.
