The Aquaculture project initially began in 2007 and was concluded in the October 2012, with the sale and transfer of the project and site to local fishing company, Fortuna. Recognising the need to diversify the local economy and ensure the future sustainability of the fishing industry, we invested, along with EU assistance, in developing inshore aquaculture. A three-year feasibility project was sponsored by us and the European Union, which identified considerable potential to develop the local aquaculture industry, and opportunities were then thrown open for companies to invest.
Aquaculture has continued to develop since the sale of the project in 2012 and you can read more about it here.
